Meet the Owners
A husband-wife team of professional dog trainers and long-time pet resort operators, Jason and Dianna Young, have purchased the Kickapoo Ranch Pet Resort here, and have moved to Waller from the Pacific Northwest with their family to operate the luxury resort for dogs and cats.
“We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to put our expertise and passion for animals to work here,” said Dianna. “We look forward to serving this wonderful community and to continuing the super-high standards and the great vision for which this resort has become widely known.”
Jason’s and Dianna’s lives have taken a round-about route before finally bringing them to the Houston area and to a business opportunity here that they see as the culmination of their lifetime of hard work in the pet-care field. Jason’s background actually lay in the US Army Special Forces where he served as a Green Beret with seven combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star on two occasions. That experience introduced him for the first time to highly trained canines that were embedded alongside soldiers in combat.
Since honorably separating from the military Jason has spent the last twelve years as an owner and operator for two award-winning Dog Boarding and Training Facilities in the Pacific Northwest.
Dianna, meanwhile, began a professional dog-training career apprenticing for four years in Germany under several skilled master trainers. She studied the art of teaching everything from basic dog obedience to specialties such as police-service work, search-and-rescue, and personal protection. Eventually, she returned to the United States, and completed her professional training here, ultimately becoming a certified canine behaviorist specializing in behavior modification. She is the author of the award-winning, best-selling book, Think Like Your Dog and Enjoy the Rewards, and her show Think Like Your Dog was accepted into the 2018 Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes and won an award of merit for Women Film makers in the 2018 IndieFest Film Awards. Dianna has also competed with her own service dogs at the national and international levels in trials in which dogs are judged on skills similar to those used by police-service dogs. Under her handling, her canines have attained the position of number-one dog in the United States and number-one dog in Canada in their respective classes.
The Youngs had operated a successful boarding kennel and dog-training center on an island in Northwest Washington state’s Salish Sea, a facility that has been voted by the public “Best Kennel” in the region every year for the past eleven consecutive years under their guidance. Jason is head of operations “I’m responsible for creating a great place to work and an amazing atmosphere for our clients”. Until recently he and Dianna also operated a dog day-care facility in Seattle, which they sold in order to free themselves to move out of that region in search of other opportunities. Together they have more than 40 years of combined canine expertise.
“Relocating our family to this community is something we’ve looked forward to for quite some time,” Jason said. “We are excited and grateful to be able to own and operate a facility as magnificent as Kickapoo Ranch Pet Resort. Our mission in life and in business is to provide as much value as we can to the communities we call home. We believe it is our job to enhance our clients’ lives by solving their animal care needs. We are looking forward to serving as much of the greater Houston area as we can”.
